Safe Trails meeting slated for Oct. 3

The second of three public meetings about developing a trail that connects several parks and schools in Jefferson is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 3 to 4 pm at the Greene County Community Center.

The Jefferson park and recreation department received a National Park grant last year to fund an Iowa State University student and the National Park Service in developing safe trails for adults and children. Zoey Mauck, a third-year student at ISU studying landscape architecture and community/regional planning, is developing the plan.

At the Oct. 3 meeting, Mauck hopes to have a round table discussion of the Safe Trails project, with representatives of all stakeholders present.

Since the first meeting is September, concerns have arisen about the need for safer pedestrian and bicyclist travel on S. Elm St from Grauer St and Greenewood Drive north to Greene County High School. Mauck will address those concerns.

All those interested in the project are asked to attend. Persons who want more information can contact Jefferson park and recreation director Vicky Lautner at 515-386-3412 or at pakrecvl@netins.net
