Rams stay undefeated on the road with win in Monroe

The Greene County boys varsity hoops team finished the Heart of Iowa season undefeated on the road with a 70-65 win over Prairie City-Monroe in Monroe Friday. They finished 13-3 in the HOIAC. The team is 14-6 overall with one more regular season game to play against non-conference rival Perry in Perry Tuesday.

The Rams were a bit sluggish in the first quarter and were down 21-18 after eight minutes of play. They picked up their rebounding and their speed and held a 35-31 lead at the intermission. They were ahead 54-47 after three quarters.

But, as has happened in other Ram games, the opponents shortened a 13-point margin with three minutes to play (65-52) to a four point margin with 26 seconds to play. The Rams missed four free throws in the last 20 seconds of play, but still came up with the win.

Unofficially Trey Tucker scored 31 points with six long buckets. Wade Adcock scored 15 points with two long shots. Trey Hinote scored 14 with two3-point baskets. Lance Hughes added six points and Calvin Skalla and Thomas Jacobsen scored two each.

The Rams went 17 of 35 2-point shots and 10 of 19 3-point shots for 50 percent shooting from the floor. They turned the ball over eight times, with two of those in the last 1:08 of play.

PCM shot at 42 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 11 times.
