ISU students to return Feb. 22

Will present their ideas for Jefferson Students from the ISU College of Design Retail Scapes studio class will return to Jefferson Monday, Feb. 22, from 2 to 4 pm at city hall. All interested persons are welcome to attend. The students visited and toured Jefferson Jan. 27, meeting with more than 40 community members as they gathered information about Jefferson.

Madonna Harris, 1927 – 2016

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 12, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson for Madonna Theressa Harris, 88, of Jefferson. The Rev Jeff Schleisman, pastor of the church, celebrated Mass of the Resurrection. Rhena Lane was organist and Robert Schwarzkopf was vocalist. State jazz contest rescheduled to Feb. 17

The IHSMA state jazz choir festival previously scheduled for Feb. 8 has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Greene County High School. Carroll Kuemper will perform at 3:30 pm, Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto at 4:15, and the Greene County Jazzatonics at 5. There is an admission charge. The public is welcome.

Rockets win first game in Region 8, face G-R next

The Paton-Churdan girls basketball team advanced to the second round of Class 1A Region 8 tournament play with a 51-27 win in Coon Rapids over Coon Rapids-Bayard Feb. 11. The Rockets dominated throughout the game, taking an early lead and ending the first quarter up 14-6. The score was 21-13 at halftime and44-18 after three quarters.
