Farm Credit Services donates to new fairgrounds beef barn

Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica) recently contributed $3,000 to help construct a beef barn on the Greene County fairgrounds in Jefferson. FCSAmerica’s Carroll office made the donation as part of a three-year commitment to contribute a total of $8,500 to the project.

The Greene County Fair Foundation plans to begin work on the beef barn in July 2017, with construction scheduled to be completed in time for the 2018 Greene County Fair. The beef barn is the final phase of a three-part plan to replace the livestock buildings on the Greene County Fairgrounds. The swine and sheep barns are complete.

The new barns are bigger and better designed to meet the needs of 4-H exhibitors and their families during the annual county fair. The barns also benefit community groups in need of educational and exhibition space throughout the year.

“This building will benefit area communities and young and beginning producers for generations to come,” said Mark Miller, a financial officer in FCSAmerica’s Carroll office.

The Carroll office previously contributed $2,500 to the beef barn. FCSAmerica will make a final $3,000 contribution in 2017.

“Supporting projects that positively impact the communities where we live and work is one way that FCSAmerica gives back to the farmers and ranchers we serve,” said Joel Mortenson, a financial officer with FCSAmerica. ~The Scranton Journal
