jefferson-pdFollowing are excerpts of activities reported  by the Jefferson police department:

Monday, Oct. 31: At 6:45 am an officer assisted a motorist who had struck a deer in the 1600 block of Westwood Drive. The vehicle had very minor damages and the owner did not want a report made. The officer had to put the injured deer down. At 12:14 pm staff at Hy-Vee reported a theft of alcohol that had occurred on Oct. 29. The officer has a suspect and is investigating. Charges are pending at this time.

At 3:02 pm staff at Hy-Vee reported a theft of alcohol that had occurred on Oct. 24.The officer is investigating. At 7:17 a caller advised that her young son had gotten separated from a group walking and trick-or-treating in the 400 block of Rushview Drive. She could not find the boy in the area. The officer was later advised that another parent had picked the child up and his mother was heading across town to get her son. ***** An officer has received DCI lab results from items seized during an event that occurred on Sept. 24 at Wild Rose Casino. Chad Alvin Prichard, 35, of Arcadia was arrested on that date for driving while barred. Suspected narcotics were seized from the vehicle and sent to be tested. Lab results show positive tests for methamphetamine. The officer has applied for arrest warrants for Prichard for possession of methamphetamine (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*. 

Sunday, Oct. 30: At 12:30 am an officer was requested at Wild Rose Casino for a dispute between to subjects in the casino. The officer arrived and spoke to a male who advised he had tipped his chair up on a gaming machine he was playing and went to the restroom. When he returned a female was playing his machine. He argued with the female and advised he had $105.90 on the machine. The female cashed the machine out and left before the officer’s arrival. The officer has identified the female and is investigating the event. At 2:08 am casino employees advised of a possible intoxicated driver leaving 777 Wild Rose Lane and provided a vehicle description. The officer and a deputy were unable to locate the vehicle. At 4:50 pm Wild Rose staff requested an officer there. A customer had accidently left his debit card in an ATM and a male had taken the card and left the casino. The officer is investigating the event. At 5:30 pm officers performed a traffic stop in the 1000 block of N. Walnut. The stop resulted in the arrest of Ryan James Brown of Jefferson for driving while revoked*. At 8:28 pm a JPD officer was requested to assist a Greene County deputy with a reported assault in the 1800 block of T Ave in Junction Township. The officer assisted the deputy and returned to the city. ****** Arrest warrants have been requested for Wayne Paul Johnson, 43, of Carroll for two separate theft investigations at Hy Vee on Oct. 23 and Oct. 26. The officer finished his investigations and applied for two arrest warrants for theft- fifth degree*.

Saturday, Oct. 29: At 8:34 pm an officer investigated a backing accident in the 200 block of S. Chestnut St. Logan Hunter Lawson was backing his 2012 Chrysler 200 from a private drive and backed into a legally parked 2007 Chevrolet Suburban that is owned by Shawn Tracy Olson. The Olson vehicle suffered $1,500 in damage. The Lawson vehicle had a reported $500 in damage. Lawson was cited for unsafe backing upon a highway.

Friday, Oct. 28: At 9:27 am an officer was called to the Greene County High School for the strong smell of marijuana coming from a student’s locker. The officer’s investigation led to juvenile charges being filed on a 17-year-old male for possession of marijuana- first offense. The officer also issued the juvenile a citation for possession of tobacco under age- third offense.

Thursday, Oct. 27: At 11:30 am a complainant reported that he left a sleeping bag in the ditch in the 600 Block of Highway 30 East and entered Sparky’s one Stop. The complainant returned to the ditch 2-1/2 hours later and his belongings were gone. At 12:18 pm a resident caught a stray cat  in the 600 block of S. Vine St. The officer placed the cat in the animal holding facility. At 8:30 pm a complainant reported the theft of a bicycle from a residence in the 300 block of N. Oak St. ****** Arrest warrants have been requested for two Jefferson residents after the completion of an investigation that began Sept. 6. Officers were called to the Kum & Go for a debit card that had been found in the parking lot and turned in to store employees. The officer contacted the owner of the card and learned it had been stolen from a vehicle in Gowrie. The officer learned the card had been used at a local ATM in Jefferson. The officer retrieved ATM video through a county attorney subpoena and developed two suspects in the case. Arrest warrants are being sought for Sean Michael Allen Pollard, 28, of Jefferson for unauthorized use of credit card (aggravated misdemeanor)* and Jasmine Tranae Fluker, 27, of Jefferson for accessory to a misdemeanor (simple misdemeanor)*.

Wednesday, Oct. 26: At 12:28 am a complainant reported a theft of cash from a wallet at a residence in the 400 block of N. Cedar St. An officer is investigating. At 4:32 am an unknown male called 9-1-1 and advised of a burglary in progress at 609 Adams St, but provided no other information and ended the call. An officer checked both 609 East and West Adams St. Everything appeared to be okay. At 3:37 pm an officer responded to the Hy-Vee parking lot for a backing accident. Harriet Crandell was backing out of a parking stall in her 2007 Cadillac DTS and struck the driver’s side of Kathy Ritchie’s 2015 Chevy Equinox as she was driving by. Crandell’s vehicle sustained $1,000 in damages and Ritchie’s sustained $2,000 in damage. No citation was issues as the accident occurred on private property.

Tuesday, Oct. 25: At 1:01 pm staff at Casey’s General Store (N. Elm St) reported two checks received at the business that appeared to be forged. The account holder is deceased and a family member had written two checks on the deceased person’s account. The officer is investigating. Other surrounding counties are also involved in this matter and investigating similar reports in their jurisdictions. At 5:12 pm staff at Hy-Vee reported a male subject had left the store without paying for items. The store believed it to be the same male who committed a similar theft on Oct. 23. The officer has identified the male subject and is investigating. At 5 pm a complainant reported harassing text messages she received from known male. The officer contacted the male and advised him to end the unwanted contact, or face criminal charges. At 5:34 pm a complainant reported the theft of a cellular phone and charger from an open front porch at a residence in the 200 block of W. Adams St.

Monday, Oct. 24: At 2:51 am a complainant called and advised there were kids attempting to break into a vehicle parked at an apartment building in the 100 block of N. Grimmell Road. No one was in the area when the officer arrived. He is still investigating after speaking with subjects in the apartment building and the vehicle’s owner. At 9:49 am an officer investigated a two vehicle property damage accident in the 500 block of N. Chestnut St. A 2010 Chevy Impala owned by Aaron Rudolph of Grand Junction was legally parked on the east side of the street. A furniture delivery truck, operated by Matthew Prenger of Carroll and owned by Prenger Furniture of Carroll struck Rudolph’s vehicle as it was attempting to stop and make a furniture delivery at a residence in that block. Prenger was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to Rudolph’s vehicle was estimated at $2,500. At 10:32 am a complainant reported his cat was stuck in a tree in the 400 block of W. Russell St. The officer was able to get the cat out of the tree. At 11:33 am Jefferson police officers were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol and the Greene County sheriff’s office in executing a search warrant at 309 N. Oak St. Officers were attempting to locate stolen property believed to be at the residence. Nothing was seized from the residence and taken into evidence. At 1:16 pm Jefferson police officers were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol and the Greene County sheriff’s office in executing a narcotics search warrant at 402 W. Russell St. Officers located numerous narcotic related items and narcotics inside the residence. Several items were seized and removed as evidence. Jaime Ray Alvarado, 22, of Grand Junction was arrested after not complying with orders from officers during the execution of the search warrant. He was charged with interference with official acts- simple, possession of marijuana- third offense (aggravated misdemeanor), and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*. A 17-year-old female was taken into custody from the residence and brought to the LEC. She was later transported by juvenile transport officers to a juvenile detention center. She has been charged with possession of marijuana- first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia*. The owner of the residence was included in the search warrant. Officers knew she was working in Fort Dodge and were assisted by Fort Dodge PD officers in locating the female at work and executing the search warrant on her person and vehicle. Additional charges are pending lab results and the completion of the investigation. At 3:41 pm officers removed an abandoned bicycle from the dental office at 207 W. State St and placed it in the city impound lot. At 8:35 pm a complainant came to the LEC to report he had been assaulted in a garage in the 300 block of N. Oak St. The officer is investigating.

Sunday, Oct. 23: At 2:57 pm staff at HyVee reported a theft of eggs and milk creamer. An officer is investigating.

Saturday, Oct. 22: At 9:18 am a complainant reported harassment by two known individuals. An officer is investigating. At 11:49 am a complainant reported a trespasser at a residence in the 400 block of N. Olive St. At 1:06 pm an officer was called to a residence in the 300 block of N. Chestnut St for a possible violation of a no contact order.

Upon arrival, the officer located Patrick Kennedy in the front yard with Brittany Smith. A no contact order was in place with Smith as the protected party. Patrick Kennedy, 30, of Jefferson was arrested for violation of a no contact order*. At 1:40 pm a resident located a small brown dog in the 600 block of N. Chestnut St. The dog was transported to PAWS by an officer. At 8:36 pm a complainant reported being harassed by an individual in a mask at Casey’s General Store (N. Elm St). An officer is investigating the claim.

Friday, Oct. 21: At 12:51 am a complainant reported a stolen credit card. At 10:37 am staff at Kum and Go reported the theft of gasoline. An officer is investigating. At 8:24 pm Christina Owens was arrested on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for theft- fifth degree*. ****  As previously reported, Kimberly Ore (Smith) and Christopher Lawrence were charged with burglary for an incident that occurred in the Greene County Medical Center parking lot on July 7. Ore pleaded guilty to the burglary on Aug. 30. On Sept. 15, Ore completed depositions at the courthouse in regards to Lawrence’s burglary charge. In the deposition, she claimed to have been with another individual who was not Lawrence when she committed the burglary. After an investigation, it was found that Ore was being deceptive in the deposition. As a result, Kimberly Ore (Smith) was charged with perjury- Class D felony*.

Thursday, Oct. 20: At 12:26 pm an officer responded to the 100 block of W. State St for a backing accident. Mary Simmons was backing out her 1996 Ford F-150 pickup truck and struck a 1996 Toyota T100 owned by Ian Johnson. Simmons was cited for unsafe backing on highway. At 2:44 pm an officer located a bike by Kelso Park and transported it to the city impound lot. At 4:53 pm a concerned citizen reported the smell of marijuana in the hallway of the apartments located at 901 W. State St. At 5:52 pm an officer removed a deer that had been struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Highway 30 and Oakland Ave east of Jefferson. At 6:58 pm Rita Meinecke reported a hit and run accident in the 300 block of N. Elm St. She advised a black pickup pulling into the A&W parking lot struck the left rear corner of her 2006 Toyota Tundra. Officers located the vehicle that drove away from the scene in the 300 block of N. West St. They located the driver, Larry Gustoff, who was driving a 1997 Chevy Silverado. Gustoff was cited for failure to yield for a left turn.

Monday, Oct. 17: At 9:26 am staff at Don’s Ace Hardware requested an officer at for a male subject who had been trespassed from the business in 2013. The officer arrested Cody Newlin Todd, 26, of Grand Junction for trespass – simple*. At 10:33 am a complainant reported a stray dog in the 600 block of W. State St. The officer placed the animal in the animal holding facility.

Saturday, Oct. 15: At 3:20 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief to a vehicle in the 300 block of S. Grimmell Rd. At 3:32 pm a complainant reported a possible burglary had occurred at the same address in the 300 block of S. Grimmell Rd. At 4:26 pm a complainant reported three 4-wheelers were “tearing up” the road on 225th St heading toward Jefferson. The officer located the ATV drivers and issued them warnings. At 7:21 pm officers arrested Jimmy Gene Godwin on an outstanding JPD arrest warrant for theft- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*

Friday, Oct. 14: At 2:25 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle personal injury accident at N. Elm and W. Washington St. Kayla Rufener of Newcomerstown, OH, was southbound in the inside lane of the 300 block of N. Elm. Isaiah Yoder of Jefferson was slightly behind the Rufener vehicle in the outside lane. Rufener turned right from the inside lane, striking Yoder’s vehicle in the outside lane. A passenger in the Rufener vehicle was transported by Greene County EMS to be checked out at ER. Rufener was cited for improper use of lane. Rufener’s 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer had a reported $1,500 damage to the right rear corner. Yoder’s 2006 Ford F150 pickup truck had a reported $2,500 in damage to the front left corner. At 6:54 pm a complainant reported her juvenile son was being bullied at the Webb House. At 8:30 pm a complainant reported his bicycle being damaged while it was parked in the 400 block of S. Wilson. At 11:59 pm a complainant brought a stray cat to the LEC. The officer placed the cat in the animal holding facility.

Thursday, Oct. 13: At 4:34 pm Joe Wanninger at Joe’s Body and Paint reported a lost or stolen dealer plate from the business. At 5:54 pm an officer was advised that city-owned flower planters had vandalized in the 100 block of N. Wilson.

Wednesday, Oct. 12: At 11:05 am an officer investigated a two vehicle property damage accident in the 500 block of N. Elm St. Craig Traeger of Goldfield was traveling in the inside northbound lane driving a 2013 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer. Traeger was following Nicholas Hidlebaugh of Rippey, who was driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am. Hildelbaugh slowed to turn into the Casey’s and was struck in the rear by Traeger. Traeger was cited for failure to stop in assured clear distance ahead. The semi-tractor had a reported $1000 in damage to the front. Damage to Hidlebaugh’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000.  At 12:56 pm officers responded with the Jefferson fire department and Greene County EMS to a two vehicle personal injury accident at Highway 30 and Mulberry St. The sheriff’s office handled the investigation. At 4:03 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle property damage accident at N. Elm and Central Ave. Janice Fern Adkins of Jefferson was eastbound on Central Ave. She stopped as posted at the intersection with N. Elm. Steven Leroy Lind of Marathon was northbound on Elm in the inside lane. Adkins entered the intersection and struck the passenger side of Lind’s vehicle; both vehicles spun onto Central Ave. Adkins was cited for failure to obey stop sign and yield right of way. Damage to her 2008 Chevrolet Impala was estimated at $10,000. Damage to Lind’s 2004 Ford F250 pickup truck was estimated at $1,000. At 7:19 pm a complainant reported returning to her unlocked residence in the 300 block of N. Wilson and finding computer equipment had been stolen. The officer is investigating.

Tuesday, Oct. 11: At 9:21 am a resident reported finding a deceased cat in her garden in the 400 block of E. Monroe St. The officer removed the cat and disposed of it. At 3:18 pm officers were requested at a residence in the 600 block of S. Chestnut St for a domestic argument occurring. The officer stood by and mediated as the male gathered some belongings to leave for a cool down period.

Monday, Oct. 10: At 11:45 am a resident advised he found two kittens in his garage in the 200 block of N. Locust St. The officer placed the kittens in the animal holding facility. At 11:48 am staff at Cobblestone Hotel turned over suspected narcotic items to an officer for destruction. The items were located by cleaning staff at the hotel.

Sunday, Oct. 9: At 4:19 a complaint advised he had located his stolen trailer at 305 N. High St. The complainant had reported the theft of the trailer on June 3 from the 300 block of N. High St. The complainant gave the officer a detailed description of damage to the trailer and other identifying information. The trailer had been recently painted black, but the white paint was located under the new black paint. The officer allowed the complainant to take possession of his trailer. The officer is speaking with the trailer’s previous owner and is still investigating. At 4:47 pm a complainant advised a semi-tractor trailer had struck and damaged the utility pole at Lincoln Way and Cedar St. The officer was busy and a Greene County deputy covered the accident. Alliant Energy crews arrived and changed the damaged utility pole. At 11:55 pm an officer arrested Jacob Aurther Ore, 39, of Jefferson on an outstanding JPD arrest warrant for theft- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. The charge stemmed from a reported shoplifting incident Sept. 30 at Kum & Go.

Friday, Oct. 7: At 1:24 pm Aureon employees reported stray kittens at the business. The officer picked them up. At 2:24 pm while on patrol an officer located a stray dog in the 700 block of S. Maple St. The animal was returned to its owner. At 7:04 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle property damage accident in the parking lot at Greene County High School. Dylan Foutch of Grand Junction was leaving a parking space and sideswiped another parked vehicle. Damage to Foutch’s 2006 Ford F150 was estimated at $500. Damage to the parked vehicle, a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck owned by Daniel Burkardt of Jefferson, was estimated at $1,000. No citation was issued due to the accident occurring on private property, outside of the traffic way.

Thursday, Oct. 6: Routine activity reported.

Wednesday, Oct. 5: At 9:05 am a complainant reported an overnight burglary and possible sexual assault occurring at a residence in the 1200 block of Westwood Drive. The officer gathered evidence at the scene to be sent to the DCI lab in Ankeny and is still investigating. At 10:20 pm officers were requested at a residence in the 800 block of W. Washington St for a male juvenile reported to be hitting his mother. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of a 16-year-old male for domestic abuse assault/causing injury (serious misdemeanor) and criminal mischief- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. The officer contacted the juvenile court officer and the male juvenile was transported from the LEC to juvenile detention in Ames.

Tuesday, Oct. 4: At 8:31 am officers were advised of loose goats in the area of the 800 block of N. Maple St. The animal’s owner was contacted to put them back in the pasture area. At 10:40 am an officer investigated a two vehicle backing accident in the 100 block of S. Chestnut St. Jay Dean Thompson of Grand Junction, was backing his 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass from a parking spot and made contact with the vehicle parked beside him, a 2007 Honda Civic owned by Lindgren Enterprises of Jefferson. The Honda received minor damages. Thompson was cited for unsafe backing upon highway. At 10:19 am two residents at the Greene County Medical Center long term care unit reported the theft of currency from their rooms. The thefts had occurred in the past week. The officer is investigating the incident.

Monday, Oct. 3: At 3:49 pm Troy Binkley spoke to an officer about a two vehicle backing accident that had occurred in the 400 block of E. Russell St. Binkley’s 2007 Lincoln Navigator, operated by Lacy Binkley, was backing from a parking spot. A vehicle was backing out beside the Binkley vehicle and they made contact with each other. The drivers exchanged information and left the scene of the accident. The officer will document the event for Binkley. At 4:26 pm a caller advised of a barking dog in the 300 block of W. Lincoln Way. The officer made contact with a subject and advised him of the complaint. He brought the animal inside. *****An officer has applied for arrest warrants for shoplifting reported to have occurred Sept. 30 at Kum & Go. Arrest warrants have been requested for Christina Lynn Owens, 31, of Jefferson and Jacob Arthur Ore, 39, of Jefferson for theft- fifth degree*.

Sunday, Oct. 2: At 12:09 pm a complainant reported the theft a TREK bicycle from a residence in the 400 block of E. Harrison St. The bike is valued at $800. At 8:01 pm a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 500 block of N. Chestnut St for her 17-year-old son who was intoxicated. The officer arrested the juvenile and charged him with minor in possession of alcohol- simple.*

Saturday, Oct. 1: At 1:51 am a deputy requested an officer to check on a reported male at Highway 30 and L Ave west of Jefferson. The male was reported to by laying face down on the shoulder of the highway. The officer made contact with the male and called for EMS. The investigation into the event is being handled by the Greene County sheriff’s office. At 2:12 am a complainant reported a barking dog at a residence in the 300 block of N. Vine St. The animal’s owner was out of town when the officer made contact with him. A citation for allowing a dog to bark has been issued. At 5:30 am employees at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab Center caught a stray dog. The officer placed the animal in the animal holding facility. At 12:30 pm a complainant reported a vehicle burglary had occurred sometime in the past two weeks to her vehicle while parked in the 400 block of N. Pinet St. At 3:40 pm an officer arrested Eric Christopher Rosenow, 33, of Scranton on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for probation violation*. At 5 pm an officer arrested Christopher Simon Hernandez, 30, of Jefferson on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for probation violation*. At 5:10 pm an officer arrested Theodore John Herrick, 36, of Jefferson on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for prohibited act – Schedule I, II, or III controlled substance- felony*. The warrant stems from an investigation conducted by the Iowa Inspection and Appeals office.

* All charges are merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
