The six candidates seeking the three county supervisor seats up for election in November will take part in a candidates’ forum on Monday, Oct 17, in the Greene Room at Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson.

Busy week for FFA
The Greene County FFA has had a busy schedule this past week. The chapter participated in a trapshoot contest in Denison, Deal’s Fall Festival with a petting zoo, a Livestock judging contest at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, and the Greenhand Fire-up in Atlantic.

Youngsters ready for the zombie apocalypse are invited to the Jefferson park and recreation department’s zombie run Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Daubendiek Park. Pre-registration is at 5 pm with the zombie run at 5:30. Pre-registration can also be done at the Greene County Community Center. Students in grades 4-8 are welcome.

Animal Protection and Education (A.P.E.)of Paton will be at the Great Iowa Pet Expo next Saturday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, varied industries building. A.P.E. will do a ‘neuter-a-tom” event. Cats will receive a neuter, rabies and FVRCP vaccines, flea treatments, microchip ID and ear mite treatment. Cost is $30.

KCCI’s SchoolNet 8 reports a high temperature of 81 degrees and the first freeze of the season – 32 degrees in the early hours of Thursday. Jefferson received just .09 inch of rain, allowing harvest to progress.
