Drive-up, after work convenience this Wednesday
Football, soup suppers and flu shot clinics are three sure indicators that it’s autumn.
The public health department at Greene County Medical Center is holding the first of its community flu shot clinics this coming week.
For those who want convenience, public health staff will offer a drive-up clinic this Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 5 to 7 pm outside Clover Hall at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson. Adults and children can get this year’s flu vaccine without getting out of the car.
Public health staff will visit northern Greene County Friday, Sept. 23. A community flu shot clinic will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 am at the Churdan United Methodist Church, and from 1 to 3 pm at the William Paton Public Library in Paton.

Healthcare professionals and the Iowa Department of Public Health recommend that everyone 6 months of age and older get a flu vaccine every year. Pregnant women, young children, older people and people with certain chronic medical conditions like asthma, diabetes and heart disease are at increased risk of serious flu-related complications, so getting a flu vaccine is particularly important for them and people who have daily contact with them.
According to the IDPH, 46 Iowans died during the 2015-16 influenza season from influenza-related causes.
