Scranton council sets hearing on comprehensive plan

The Scranton city council will hold a public hearing Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6 pm on the zoning commission’s recommendation on the adoption of the proposed comprehensive plan. The hearing was set at the Aug. 9 meeting of the council.

Region XII Council of Government representatives were in attendance. Karla Janning discussed the Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Community Development Block Grant. The Council approved payment of $500 to do the required preliminary grant work. Rick Hunsaker presented the draft employee handbook. The council approved the final draft.

The council approved a proposal from Region XII for payment of $750 for common ordinance development with other Greene County towns as well as proposed rental inspection fees and reporting services. The council also approved working with Region XII to apply for multiple grant opportunities for the park project, Trees Forever and the visioning program.

A change was made in the organization of the Scranton Betterment Committee, repealing Resolution 97-13 and approving Resolution 2016-11: Resolution adopting a Sponsorship Policy for the City of Scranton.

The mayor’s appointments of Ethel Subbert, Darlene Taggart, LeRoy Reineke and Cindy Boyd to the zoning board of adjustment were approved.

Monthly reports were given by Dawn Rudolph, community center; Sheryl Hoyt, library; and Chad Kirk, public works.

In other business, the council:

  • approved a three-year pump service agreement with Electric Pump for $945 per year.
  • approved a proposal from C.L. Carroll Company in the amount of $25,075 for lagoon aeration leak repairs.
  • approved a $14,100 estimate from Central Iowa Televising for storm tile repairs.
  • approved the repair of the street sweeper by Van Wall at an estimated cost of $3,100. Cole Gustoff cast a dissenting vote on this matter.
