Lila Brelsford, 1932 – 2016

Brelsford, LilaA Service of Remembrance was held for Lila Brelsford, 84, of Jefferson Thursday, Aug. 18, at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson.

Words of comfort were offered by the Rev Paul Burrow, pastor of the Rippey United Methodist Church. Honorary bearers will be Jeff Odem, Justin Ives, Emily Vetter, Andrew Odem, Capitola Tucker, Nicole Strean, Ardis Kiner, Marilyn Rowles, Dorothy Rueter, Connie Neese, Bill Dunivan and Karen Dunivan.

Casket bearers were Jon Brelsford, Joey Brelsford, Zac Vetter, Erin Vetter, Megan Breslford and Nikki Brelsford. Interment was at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry.

Lila Faye Hunt Brelsford was born Jan. 26,1932, in a farm house in Boone County to Homer ‘Wayne’ Hunt and Mildred ‘Tillie’ Lansing Hunt. She was raised on a farm near Rippey where she attended school and graduated in 1949.  

On Dec. 10, 1950, Lila married Lloyd Brelsford and they became the parents of two children, Craig and Diana. They lived in rural Perry before moving to a farm south of Grand Junction where they raised their family. In 1976 Lloyd and Lila moved to Jefferson. 

Lila’s employment included working at the Bell Telephone Company in Perry, Globe Free Press in Grand Junction and Bee & Herald in Jefferson.  She retired from the Farmers Home Administration after working 20-plus years. 

Lila volunteered with the Greene County Medical Center auxiliary and at congregate meals. She also enjoyed golfing, playing cards and visiting casinos with her friends.  But most of all, Lila loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Lila died Aug. 14, 2016, in Jefferson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd and parents Wayne and Mildred Hunt. 

She is survived by her son Craig and his wife Jill of Grand Junction and her daughter Diana Vetter of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren Jon (Nikki) Brelsford of Rippey, Joey (Nicole) Brelsford of Sandy, OR,  Zac (Emily) Vetter and Erin Vetter all of Kansas City; great-grandchildren Megan, Stephen, Kamryn, Kady, Suri and Silas; her sister JoAnn Odem of Mequon, WI; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
