Students tour Jefferson sites as part of summer school

Students who have attended the summer school reading program in grades K-8 had the opportunity to learn about the Mahanay Bell Tower, the 100-year-old courthouse, Thomas Jefferson Gardens, and Sally’s Alley the last part of June.

The summer school staff  thanked the Jefferson Kiwanis Club for paying for all children to ride the elevator to the top of the bell tower for free this summer.  Also, Pat Richards for coordinating the day’s activities.  She had the children split up into four groups. Kevin Richards gave the bell tower tour, Pat Richards did the presentations for the courthouse, John Turpin and Roger Aegerter gave tours for the Thomas Jefferson Gardens, and Shelly Berger gave the tour of Sally’s Alley.  “We appreciate their time and dedication in what they do for Jefferson and our students,” school district reading specialist Julie Neal said.
