Whipple’s fifth place leads the Rams’ day at state track

Greene County Ram senior Daric Whipple placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles in Class 3A at the state track and field meet Friday with a time of :54.69. Winning time was :53.06 by JoJo Frost of Center Point.

His fifth place finish was the best for the Rams on Friday.

Whipple was back on the track two hours later as the fourth runner on the 4 X 100 meter relay prelims. The Rams placed 15th with a time of :44.14. Other runners on the team were senior Max Neese and juniors Chase Stoline and Logan Lansman. The fastest time in the prelims was Boone’s :43.09.

And, an hour after the 4 X 100, Whipple was the last man in preliminaries of the 4 X 400 meter relay. That relay placed 18th with a time of 3:31.63. Junior Nick Schroeder, Neese and senior Ethan Woodruff filled out the team. The fastest time in the prelims was 3:24.35 by Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

Senior Matthew Gordon placed 23rd in the shot put with a best throw of 40′ 11-1/2″. He fouled on this first throw and made 40′ 3-3/4″ on his second throw. The winning throw in 3A was 60′ 1-1/4″ by junior Tristan Wirfs of Mount Vernon. Wirfs was the only thrower to top 60 inches. Second place was a throw of 52′ 5-1/2″.

The Ram girls 800 sprint medley relay runs Saturday morning. Freshman Melanie Doran, sophomore Laurin Lyons and Megan Durbin, and junior Olivia Hansen comprise the team.
