Children now in grades 1-3 who want to learn about rabbits and poultry are invited to join the new Birds and Bunnies Club. Children in the club will be able to show animals at the Greene County Fair in July.

Birds and Bunnies Club will introduce kids to 4-H, as well as the basics of care, grooming and showing poultry and rabbits. There will be two mandatory meetings in order to eligible to show at the Greene County Fair.

The club will meet May 10 at the Extension office in Jefferson and on June 18 at the fairgrounds. The June meeting will include hands-on experience with rabbits and poultry so children can learn all they need to know to show at the fair.

Children will be allowed to show up to two rabbits and/or two poultry. Children who do not have access to rabbits or poultry will be helped by club leaders to find animals. The poultry show is Wednesday, July 13, and the rabbit show is Thursday, July 14. Birds and Bunnies Club leaders are Brittany Gunn and Amanda McDonough, and County 4-H and youth coordinator Kayla Hyett.

Registrations are due at the Extension office by May 2. For more information call 515-386-2138, email khyett@iastate.edu, or visit the office at 104 W. Washington in Jefferson. Registration forms were sent home with students at Greene County and Paton-Churdan elementary schools, or can be accessed through website at www.extension.iastate.edu/greene.
