The Bell Tower Community Foundation is applying for a state Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grant to help finance the completion of the 4-octave carillon of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower in honor of its 50th birthday this year.
To enhance the application, letters of support from local residents are strongly encouraged.
Individual letters have been prepared and are at Home State Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank (Jefferson), The Printer’s Box and Homestead Bakery and Coffee. Supporters only need to put their signature on a letter.
Bell Tower Foundation president Carole Custer said completing the four-octave carillon is a four-decades’ old dream, and if the grant is approved, the funds will help make the dream come true of actual bells ringing when music is played by local residents and students for the enjoyment of Greene county’s residents and visitors to Jefferson.
Citizens are encouraged to visit one of these businesses and sign one of the letters. They will be part of the Foundation’s application. Deadline for letters is Tuesday, April 5.
Anyone interested in purchasing one of the remaining 15 bells in honor of their family or as a memorial to a loved one can contact Custer at 515-370-0009.
