Upcoming events: The annual Lions Club father/son banquet is set for April 2 at the Rippey United Methodist Church. Doors open at 11:30 am with the meal at 12 noon. Entertainment following the meal will be Rick Fazel playing guitar and singing a variety of songs. As done for many years, there will be gifts given for a lot of special reasons. Tickets can be purchased from any Rippey Lion, at either of the Rippey banks or call 515-230-2594.

Finch speaks at Lions Club as Relay for Life ‘Fight Back’ speaker: Jane Finch presented the program for the Rippey Lions Club on March 3, speaking about the Relay for Life in Greene County to support the fight against cancer. She shared her personal story and reminded the group of the importance of properly applying sun screen and limiting exposure to the summer sun to prevent skin cancer.

She encouraged those present to attend all or part of the Relay for Life activities on April 23 at the Greene County Community Center. This includes the walk/run event beginning with registration at 9:30, a silent auction, and recognition of cancer survivors, the luminarias in memory of those who lost their lives to cancer and in honor of cancer survivors and caregivers, and a variety of top notch entertainment.

The Lions executive committee will meet prior to the next regular meeting on April 7 to discuss the upcoming slate of officers. This will be a potluck meeting and Dale and Nancy Hanaman will be in charge of the program.

Grandchildren visit: Nancy and Dale Hanaman met their daughter Sarah, her husband Benji, and their children, Steven, Elizabeth and Andrea in Lakeville, MN, so the grandchildren can spend their spring break on the “farm.” Activities included swimming, making cookies and helping clear the lawn of hundreds of sticks.
