Amtrak coming through Greene County

The train tracks through Greene County will be a bit busier for the next few days. Greene County emergency management director Dennis Morlan was notified Thursday afternoon that due to flooding in south central Iowa, Amtrak is rerouting Train 6(23), the California Zephyr that runs from Omaha, NE, thru Burlington, with stops in Creston, Osceola and Ottumwa.

Greene County senior Hannah Onken had a whopping seven runs batted in to push the Rams to a 10-4 softball victory over the North Polk Comets in Alleman June 29. She hit a three run homer n the third inning and a grand slam in the fourth. They were her sixth and seventh home runs of the season.

City named in lawsuit related to overpass

Dixon Construction, Union Pacific railroad, and the city of Jefferson are all defendants in a lawsuit filed late last month by Roger Nielson, a Jefferson resident and business owner who has argued for the past two years that flooding of his property in May 2013  was due to the design and construction of the Highway 4 overpass.
