Tree Tracings

Tree Tracings~by Valerie Ogren for the Greene County Historical Society

Meeting notice: The Greene County Genealogical Society will meet Saturday, Jan. 2, at 10 am in the basement meeting room of the Jefferson public library. Library director Jane Millard will present a program “Nuggets of News.”  She will give hints on how to gather small tidbits of information from newspapers to aide in research.  There might be a surprise ending. I guarantee it will be fun and interesting! The reference library will be open at 9 am if you would like to do some research before the meeting.

Happy New Year: Congratulations to the new officers. I think we may have one yet to install since Elaine Deluhery was busy with the cookie parade last month. Please add to your list of New Year’s resolutions with a promise to help your officers.  The VP always needs program suggestions – or an offer to do one yourself. We can all learn from each other. I’m always looking for material for this column and the “Greene Gleanings” quarterly newsletter. Ada and Arlene could use some help doing a new inventory of the library shelves since we have withdrawn some out-of-date material. Call and let them know when a convenient day/time would work for you. That would also be an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with what we have available. It’s your organization. Help make it grow.

Reference library: Keep in mind that our reference library will probably not be open on a regular basis during the winter months.  To make an appointment, call Arlene Johnson at 515-386-5431. Just a reminder that all of our Greene County publications of birth, death, marriage, census, cemetery, etc. are available for reference in the adult section of the Jefferson public library.  In addition, you can also view newspaper microfilm there for Jefferson, Grand Junction and Scranton.
