police_dept_badgeFollowing are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:

Thursday, Dec. 31: At 11:50 am an officer investigated a two vehicle collision at E. Park St and S. Mulberry St. Claudette Sherlock was northbound on S. Mulberry St. Nick Murphy was eastbound on E. Park St. Sherlock lost control entering the curve at the intersection and struck Murphy’s vehicle. An estimated $1,000 in damage was caused to Sherlock’s 2004 F-150 pickup truck. Murphy’s Chevy Silverado pickup truck did not sustain any damage. At 2:06 pm a complainant reported his mailbox at 100 Briarwood Bend was struck by a vehicle, and that his neighbor’s mailbox had also been struck. At 10:45 pm a complainant reported an individual was attempting to breaking into his residence. An officer arrived on scene and located vandalism at the residence as well. An address was not given.

Wednesday, Dec. 30: At 1:09 am a complainant reported a burglary in progress at a residence in the 700 block of S. Oak St. Someone had broken into the garage and was attempting to manipulate a back door to the house when they were scared off by the complainant. An investigation was initiated. At 1:45 pm an officer observed a male at HyVee after he had been trespassed from the property after a previous theft. Charges will be filed if requested. *** A warrant has been issued charging Richard Dean Tuhn, Jr, 37, of Grand Junction with contempt of court – violation of a no contact/protective order*. The charge stems from a complaint initiated on Dec. 22 in the 400 block of S. Locust Street.

Tuesday, Dec. 29: At 10:43 am Iowa Home Care reported an alleged theft of medication from an apartment at 1000 W Adams St. At 2:36 pm the Perry police department requested an officer contact a local resident regarding a burglary that took place in Perry. ***An officer has charged Bridget Harnack, 23, of Jefferson with unauthorized use of a credit card (aggravated misdemeanor)*. The charges were a result of a complaint filed on Dec. 18 regarding a credit card being used without the owner’s permission. ***Pursuant to a complaint filed on Dec. 16 when it was alleged two females had stolen a bottle of alcohol from HyVee, warrants have been issued charging Karah Brown, 18, of Jefferson and Bayllie Flinn, 19, of Jefferson with theft-fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. *** A warrant has been issued charging Russell Gardner, 40, of Jefferson with assault-simple* in connection with an incident reported Dec. 26 at a residence in the 400 block of W. Russell St.

Monday, Dec. 28: At 3:42 pm an officer assisted two motorists stuck in the snow at Park Ave South and Elm St. At 3:58 pm a complainant reported a harassing phone call received at a residence in the 600 block of W. State St. Information was forwarded to the Ames police department for follow up. At 5:21 pm a complainant reported snow had fallen off the roof of Dollar General and had damaged the windshield on a 2013 Dodge Caravan. ***There were five citations issued for violation of the snow ordinance. ***An officer has cited Joseph Jabaay for discharging a firearm within the city limits. The charge stems from a report of a firearm being discharged in the 500 block of S. Walnut St on Dec. 23 when a deer walked into the yard.

Sunday, Dec. 27: Routine activity reported.

Saturday, Dec. 26: At 2:06 am a Greene County sheriff’s deputy requested assistance from a Jefferson police officer with a fleeing vehicle that was refusing to stop. The officer assisted with the pursuit until Boone County deputies became involved. At 1:48 pm a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 400 block of W. Russell St for an assault that had occurred. The officer has started an investigation. At 3:07 pm the Deuel County, South Dakota, sheriff’s office requested assistance from a JPD officer in attempting to locate a vehicle at a Jefferson residence. At 11:30 pm officers issued four parking violation notices for parked over 48 hours. The vehicles had been previously issued citations for snow emergency parking violations on Dec. 24 after crews had plowed around them, but still had not moved from their locations.

Friday, Dec. 25: At 9:17 am a complainant reported a burglary to a vehicle overnight. The vehicle had been parked inside a garage in the 100 block of S. Elm St. Items had been removed from the vehicle.

Thursday, Dec. 24: At 2:54 pm an officer assisted with a vehicle in the ditch on County Raod E-53 near the airport. *** Twenty-one citations were issued during the afternoon hours for parking – snow ordinance.

Wednesday, Dec. 23: At 6:50 am a complainant reported a vehicle had been burglarized while parked in the 400 block of S. Wilson. At 11:38 am a complainant reported a theft over Facebook. The complainant had purchased a cellular phone from another female and when she went to activate it she found  that she could not do so due to it being blacklisted. At 12:15 pm a complainant reported a burglary to a vehicle in the 300 block of E. Madison St which occurred overnight. At 3:08 pm an officer was requested by the sheriff’s office to check on a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 30 at Pioneer Ave east of Jefferson. At 8:41 pm an officer was advised of a report of a male who had exited a residence with a long rifle in the 500 block of S. Walnut St and had attempted to shoot some deer in the back yard. The officer obtained a search warrant. At 10:34 pm, the officer with assistance of a Greene County sheriff’s deputy and two Iowa State Patrol troopers executed the search warrant at that residence. Charges are pending completion of the investigation.

Tuesday, Dec. 22: At 10:33 am staff at Clark Plumbing and Heating requested an officer for a theft. At 11:30 am a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 400 block of S. Locust St for a reported violation of a protective order. The incident remains under investigation. At 4:40 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision at Washington and N. Wilson. Rosalie Sukovaty was northbound on Wilson. Erika Godwin was westbound on Washington St. Sukovaty stopped at the stop sign at the intersection and looked before proceeding but did not see Godwin’s vehicle. The two vehicles collided within the intersection, causing an estimated $6,000 in damage to Sukovaty’s 2007 Nissan Murano and $4,000 in damage to Godwin’s 2002 Honda Accord. Sukovaty was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. At 4:47 pm a complainant reported the theft of a metal brake from the car wash in the 200 block of W. McKinley St. A black early 2000 model Chevrolet pickup with a single ladder rack on the driver’s side of the vehicle was observed leaving the scene with the brake loaded in the bed of the pickup. At 5:15 pm a complainant reported the theft of money from a locker at the Greene County High School which occurred on Dec. 17.  *** Warrants have been issued charging Patrick Douglas Doyle, 46, of Jefferson with four counts of unauthorized use of a credit card (aggravated misdemeanor) and theft-fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. The charges resulted from a report  wallet lost at Fareway on Dec. 14. After the wallet had been lost, credit cards had been used at Dollar General, Walmart, Kum and Go and Casey’s all in Boone. Officers were able to obtain video surveillance of the credit cards being used and identified a suspect in the case. A search warrant was executed on Dec. 20 at a residence in the 100 block of Harding Road in relation to the investigation.

Monday, Dec. 21: Routine activity reported.

Sunday, Dec. 20: At 11:13 am a complainant reported a burglary at a residence in the 700 block of S. Locust St. The complainant returned home to find a television on and a change bucket missing. At 5:18 pm officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Harding Road regarding an ongoing investigation involving unauthorized use of credit cards. Charges are pending completion of the investigation.

Saturday, Dec. 19: Routine activity reported.

Friday, Dec. 18: At 11 am a complainant reported the unauthorized use of a debit card at a residence in the 400 block of E. Harrison St. At 9:53 pm officers were requested at Xtreme Youth Center for a reported assault. An investigation was initiated.

Thursday, Dec. 17: At 12:40 am a complainant reported an assault at a residence in the 400 block of S. Georgia St. At 2:22 pm staff at Kum and Go reported a gas drive off in the amount of $25.16.

Wednesday, Dec. 16: At 9:11 am staff at Hy-Vee reported the theft of alcohol that occurred Dec. 12. An investigation was initiated.

Tuesday, Dec. 15: At 11:29 am a complainant reported the loss of a wallet at Fareway and subsequent use of his credit cards at businesses in other communities. An investigation was initiated. At 6:23 pm Cody Todd reported a vehicle had nearly struck him while he attempted to cross the street at W. Harrison and S. Vine St. The officer discovered there was an outstanding warrant for Todd out of Adel for criminal mischief – third degree*. The officer arrested Todd and transported him to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center to await pick up by a Dallas County officer.

Monday, Dec. 14: At 9:31 am Jefferson city staff reported the theft of services at a residence in the 100 block of Harding Road. An investigation was initiated. At 12:59 pm a complainant reported the theft of an extension ladder from a residence in the 400 block of E. McKinley St. At 3:08 pm a complainant reported a vehicle had been backed into at 1903 N. Mulberry St. The officer’s report is pending at this time. ***On Nov. 1 an officer took a report of a violation of a no contact order. After completion of the officer’s investigation, Travis Frederick Venteicher, 32, of Churdan and Heather Desiree Garcia, 37, of Jefferson have both been charged with contempt of court – violation of a no contact / protective order*.

Sunday, Dec. 13: At 6:58 pm an officer investigated a single vehicle accident at Wild Rose Casino. A 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe, owned by John Ford of Humboldt was damaged as a casino valet was retrieving it for the owner. While turning the vehicle in the lot, the front left corner struck the concrete base of a light pole. The vehicle suffered an estimated $2,000 in damage. The light pole did not suffer any damage.

Saturday, Dec. 12: At 11:26 am a complainant reported criminal mischief to a fence in the 500 block of W. State St.

Friday, Dec. 11: At 9:40 am a complainant reported a burglary to a vehicle at 1000 W. Adams St. At 1:40 pm an officer assisted the Greene County sheriff’s office with a K-9 search of the high school parking lot at 101 Ram Drive. At 5:30 pm staff at Dollar General reported a shoplifting theft. The subject had left before the officer’s arrival. The officer’s investigation has led to an arrest warrant application for John Michael Brinkley for theft-fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*.

Thursday, Dec. 10: At 9:13 am a complainant reported the theft of medication from a room at the Redwood Motel.

Wednesday, Dec. 9: Routine activity reported.

Tuesday, Dec. 8: At 8:02 am an officer removed a deer which had been struck by a vehicle at Sunset and Elm St. At 3:32 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision at Cedar St and Lincoln Way. Lisa Miller had been southbound on Cedar Street and had stopped at the stop sign. Steven Sillyman had been eastbound on Lincoln Way. Miller left the stop sign and the two vehicles collided within the intersection. Miller’s 1998 Land Rover sustained $2,000 in damage and Sillyman’s 2012 Ford F-150 pickup truck had an estimated $1,200 in damage. Miller was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. At 5:55 pm a complainant requested officers at a residence in the 300 block of W. Reed St for an unknown disturbance. Upon the arrival of officers, a male who was in the yard fled from officers. The officers gave chase and detained the subject.Nicholas Balderas, 23, was arrested and charged with public intoxication – second offence and interference with official acts (serious misdemeanors)*. One of the officers involved in the incident suffered possible injuries after tripping over a low hung fence wire in the back yard of the residence while giving chase to Balderas. ***Pursuant to an arrest on Nov. 24, arrest warrants have been issued charging Michael Lynn Heard, Sr, 54, of Jefferson with assault on a persons in certain occupations – bodily injury and criminal mischief- third degree, (aggravated misdemeanors), interference with official acts – bodily injury and eluding (serious misdemeanors), and reckless driving and driving on wrong side of two-way highway (simple misdemeanors)*. Officers were in the process of arresting Heard a 307 W. Lincoln Way when he entered a vehicle and fled from the officers. Heard crashed through a gate at the middle school at which time he exited his vehicle and attempted to run towards the east entrance of the school. A sheriff’s deputy and officers were able to take Heard into custody prior to Heard gaining access to the school.

Monday, Dec. 7: At 5:19 pm staff at Dollar General requested an officer for shoplifting. *** As the result of a complaint Dec. 6 of a male entering a residence in the 300 block of W. Reed St and threatening the occupants, an officer has applied for an arrest warrant charging Joseph Thomas Romeo II, 45, of Jefferson with harassment – first degree (aggravated misdemeanor), and assault-simple and trespass (simple misdemeanors)*.

Sunday, Dec. 6: ***After the completion of an investigation initiated on Nov. 20 when a theft was reported at 608 W. Washington St, an officer has charged Jesus Zuniga, 16, with theft – fourth degree – (serious misdemeanor)*. Zuniga has been referred to Juvenile Court Services.

Saturday, Dec. 5: At 9:17 am a Shelly Fouch reported a hit and run collision that occurred on Dec. 4 in the parking lot at McFarland Clinic. The driver’s door on a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup had been struck causing an estimated $500 in damage. At 9:27 am a complainant reported possible trespass on some property near Deer Run. The officer found deer hunters in the area and spoke to them regarding the complaint.

Friday, Dec. 4: At 4:48 pm a complainant reported a male riding a mower in the 1100 block of N. Wilson in a careless manner causing other vehicles to have to swerve to avoid it. At 5:15 pm officers assisted a sheriff’s deputy with an arrest at Highway 30 and Orchard Ave.

Thursday, Dec. 3: At 23:40 pm a complainant reported a male going through a vehicle in the 700 block of S. Vine St. A sheriff’s deputy responded as the officer was tied up with a previous call. The male was also observed entering a garage in the 800 block of S. Vine St. The subject was not located. Nothing has been reported to have been taken at this time.

Wednesday, Dec. 2: At 7:23 am a complainant reported a theft of medication from a residence in the 600 block of S. Cedar St.

Tuesday, Dec. 1: ***Pursuant to an investigation related to a collision that occurred in the Dollar General parking lot on Oct. 5, an officer has cited Victoria Subbert for failure to prove security against liability – accident related. ***An officer has applied for a warrant charging Andrew Jensen, 33, of Jefferson with disorderly conduct (simple misdemeanor)*. The charge stems from a reported disturbance that took place on Sept. 26 at 02:03 am in the 100 block of N. Chestnut St. ***Pursuant to a report of the theft of an air hose on Nov. 1 at Oly’s Corner, an officer has applied for an arrest warrant charging Michael Eastman, 41, of Jefferson with theft – fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*.
