Council changes snow parking ordinance

The Jefferson city council at its Nov. 10 meeting approved the final reading of a change to the city ordinance pertaining to parking on city streets when it snows. The change reverses a change made four years ago.

Until 2011, parking was banned on residential streets any time more than one-half of inch fell. The 2011 amendment allowed parking from 6 am to 6 pm. That proved not to work well for the streets committee or the police department.

The amended ordinance bans parking any time it snows until the streets are cleared.

Parking on the streets downtown will be banned from 2 to 6 am when it snows. Downtown residents will be allowed to park in the city-owned parking lots.
