October warmer, dryer than usual in Jefferson

By the standards people watch in weather, it was a nice October in Jefferson.

According to data provided by volunteer weather observer John Beltz, the first 21 days of October were dry. Jefferson received 1.7 inches of rain, with nearly half of that falling on Oct. 28. Normal precipitation for October is 2.41 inches.

It was also warmer than normal. The average high temperature was close to normal, 64.8 degrees compared to the normal average high of 64.5 degrees. High temperature for the month was 88 degrees on Oct. 12. The high temperature was 70 degrees or warmer on nine days, and there were only three days at the end of the month that the temperature didn’t reach 50 degrees. The record high temperature for October in Jefferson is 96 degrees set on Oct. 1, 1976.

The average low temperature was 41.1 degrees, compared to the normal average low temperature of 38.7 degrees. Low temperature was 32 degrees on Oct. 30. The low temperature was 40 degrees or cooler on 10 nights in October. The record low temperature for October in Jefferson is -6 degrees on Oct. 30, 1925.
