Still time for absentee ballots
Voters who live in the cities of Greene County will go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 3. There are numerous contests around the county. Polls will be open from 12 noon until 8 pm. To see the legal Notice of Election, click here: Legal Notice of Election
In Jefferson, mayor Craig Berry is unopposed. Five people are seeking the at-large council seat held by Shannon Black, who is not seeking re-election. They are Brandon Gustoff, Lisa Turner, MeLinda Madison-Millard, Brett Cranston and David Sloan. Lisa Jaskey is being challenged in District 2 by Matt Wetrich. All voters can vote for the at large position and the District 2 position. Polling will be at the courthouse for voters in Jefferson 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church for voters in Jefferson 2, and at the Greene County Community Center for voters in Jefferson 3. Churdan has a full slate of candidates for council. Steve Killeen and Roger M. Olson are seeking re-election and Jason Minnehan is also on the ballot for the position now held by Andrew Nygaard, who did not seek re-election. Minnehan is now on the council as an appointment to fill a vacancy. Ann Meyer is currently on the council following an appointment but did not seek election. Heidi Geisler and Nick Christianson are on the ballot to fill the two vacancies. Voting will take place at the Community Center in Churdan. For a sample ballot, click here: Churdan ballot
Mandy Sims is running for the job of Dana mayor. She is a current council member. Jack Pedersen is not seeking re-election to the mayor post. Anthony Sims and Karlan Langfitt are on the ballot for Mandy Sims’ position and a seat held by Jeremiah Pedersen. Jeremiah Pedersen is not seeking re-election. Christopher Jon Vargas is on the ballot to be elected to a vacancy to which he was previously appointed. Voting will be at the St Brigid Parish Center in Grand Junction. There is a race for the job of Grand Junction mayor. Gerold F. Herrick currently holds the title but will be challenged by David Kersey. A write-in candidate will win the job of Paton mayor. Steve Burrell is not seeking re-election. Incumbent council members Judy Wilson, Casey Kaufman and Eric Geisler are all seeking re-election. Voting will be at the Shriver community Center in Paton. For a sample ballot, click here: Paton ballot
There is a full slate of candidates in Rippey. Long-time mayor Daniel Brubaker is unopposed, as are incumbent council members Ned Johnston, Richard Liebich and Jon Allen. Donald Carpenter is seeking election to fill a vacancy. Voting will be at the Rippey library/community room. For a sample ballot, click here: Rippey ballot
Scranton mayor BJ Wright, who was appointed to the position following the death of Rod Walker, is not seeking election. Running for that position are Tina Walker and Randy Winkelman. Winkelman is a current council member and Walker previously served on the council.
Voters will also elect three city council members, one by write-in vote. Incumbent Ethel Subbert and Connie A. Scrivner are on the ballot. Incumbents Cole Gustoff and Orvie Umbaugh are not seeking re-election.
Also on the ballot in Scranton is Proposition B, which would reduce the number on the library board of trustees from seven to five, and shorten their terms from six to three years. The mayor appoints library trustees, subject to approval by the council. Voting will be a the city hall at the former school building. For a sample ballot, click here: Scranton ballot
Absentee ballots are available but the time is short to allow mailing. Absentee ballots may be voted in person at the Greene County auditor’s office during regular office hours. Voters are reminded of the registration requirements.
