The average high temperature for September was 78.7 degrees, compared to the normal average high of 76.7 degrees. High temperature was 89 degrees on Sept. 7. There were 16 days when the high temperature was 80 degrees or warmer. Record high temperature in September in Jefferson is 102 degrees set on Sept. 5, 1913.
Average low temperature was 56.4 degrees, with normal being 50.5. The low temperature for the month was 39 degrees on Sept. 30. There were 16 nights when the low temperature was 60 degrees or warmer, and only six nights when the low was cooler than 50 degrees. Record low temperature for September is 22 degrees on Sept. 28, 1942.
Jefferson received a total of 5.41 inches of rain; normal for September is 2.95 inches. Rain fell on nine days, with three rainfalls totaling more than an inch. The largest rainfall was 2.45 inches on Sept. 7.
Beltz calculated 544 growing degree days for the month; 493 is normal.
