New brighter, more efficient lights at the Community Center

Things are looking brighter at the Greene County Community Center with the installation last week of new LED lighting in the gymnasium.

The 400 watt halide light fixtures that were original to the building (1998) were replaced with 36 LED lights. The security lights were also replaced. The LED lights are brighter and come on instantly, rather than waiting for the halide lights to warm up. They’re also expected to save the city of Jefferson one-third on the Community Center’s light bill, according to Jefferson park and recreation director Vicky Lautner.

Total cost of the project was $27,864. PACE, a funding arm for the Community Center is paying half, and the other half will come from the portion of the hotel/motel tax revenue earmarked for recreation.  The project is also eligible for a $4,200 rebate from Alliant Energy, Lautner added.

Chris Mannion shared this photo with Lautner. With the curtain down between the halves of the gym, it’s easy to see on which side Durlam Electric had finished the installation.Rec center lights
