Ram teams both lose non-conference games

The Greene County Ram teams both lost non-conference games Tuesday. The softball team lost in Adel to the ADM Tigers 5-3 as the baseball team lost at home to the Southeast Valley (Gowrie) Jaguars 11-7.

It was the second loss of the season for the softball team, putting the girls at 12-2 on the season. The Tigers have a 13-2 record. The Rams were ranked third in Class 3A at the end of last week; the Tigers were ranked fifth.

Pitcher Marissa Promes allowed eight hits, all in the first three innings. The struck out eight batters for the game, six of them in the last three innings. Four of the Tigers’ runs were unearned. Promes waled three batters.

ADM pitcher Molly Jacobsen had 10 strikeouts and one walk as she allowed three runs on eight hits.

The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Rams answered with two runs on a Emma Saddoris two out, two run homer to center field. ADM scored three more runs in the third inning.

The Rams had the bases loaded in the fourth inning on singles by Promes and Tressa Rasmussen and a walk by Saddoris but the runners were stranded after a pop up to third base and a strikeout.

The Rams scored again in the fifth inning after Emily Christensen hit a single that brought in Carleigh Paup, who had gotten on base with a single. The Rams threatened with two on base and only one out, but a run down at third base that took out Kayla Mobley and a diving catch of a Rasmussen hit ended the inning.

The Rams are 12-0 in Heart of Iowa play. They return to the conference to play Colfax-Mingo in Colfax Wednesday evening.

The baseball team was down 8-1 after three innings, but the Rams scored twice in the fourth inning and four times in the fifth inning to bring the score to 8-7. The Jaguars scored their final three runs in the top of the seventh inning for the final score of 11-7.

The game was not pretty, with the Jaguars committing seven errors and the Rams committing six. Junior pitcher Daric Whipple took the pitching loss. He faced 12 batters and left the game with the bases loaded and no outs in the second inning. Senior Jordan Hostetler pitched six innings.

The Rams had seven hits for the game. Hostetler and Dylan McConnnell both had two-run singles. Reid Lamoureux hit three singles and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run. Riah Nelsen hit two singles.

Southeast Valley had 12 hits for the game.

The Rams are now 7-6 overall and 5-3 in the HOIAC. They host the C-M Tigerhawks in Jefferson Wednesday at 7 pm.
