Greene County Ram fans had much to cheer about in Alleman Monday evening as the softball team improved its season record to 10-0 and the baseball team got its fourth win via the 10-run rule.
The softball team used 11 hits to claim a 4-1 victory over the North Polk Comets. Senior pitcher Marissa Promes struck out two batters, walked none, but hit the same batter twice. She gave up three hits. The Rams had three errors and the Comets’ one run was unearned.
Greene County scored an unearned run in the first inning. Hannah Onken hit a double to score a run in the third inning, and Sydney Koch hit a double that scored two runs in the fifth inning. Koch also hit a single. Promes, Tressa Rasmussen and Carleigh Paup all hit two singles, and Bailey Godwin and Kayla Mobley both had base hits.
The Rams are 10-0 on the season and 7-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The Comets are 6-6 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
Senior pitcher Riah Nelsen threw his second no-hitter for the season as the Rams topped the North Polk Comets 16-0 in four innings. Nelsen is now 3-0 on the season. He struck out six and walked one. That walk in the fourth inning gave the Comets their only base runner in the game.
Greene County was up 1-0 after one inning and 8-0 after three innings. As the visiting team they batted first, and the score was 16-0 after the top of the fourth inning.
The Rams got 11 hits, including a three run homer by Alex Rasmussen in the third inning. It was Rasmussen’s second home run for the season. He also hit a single and batted in two more runs. Jordan Hostetler singled, doubled, and had three RBIs. Nelsen hit two doubles and Daric Whipple hit two singles for an RBI. Jordan Challen and Dylan McConnell both hit singles and got one RBI, and Tyler Beger hit a single.
The Rams are now 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the HOIAC. North Polk is 3-3 in the HOIAC and 3-7 overall.
