Semi-tractor totaled in collision with cultivator

June 1 accident 2A collision between a semi-tractor trailer and a field cultivator on Highway 30 west of Jefferson Monday evening resulted in damage of several thousand dollars.

Greene County deputies responded to the accident at L Ave, two miles west of Jefferson, at 5:15 pm. According to the sheriff’s report, Chester Chester Sargent of rural Jefferson was eastbound on Highway 30 driving a John Deere tractor pulling a field cultivator. Dee Jay Byerly of Scranton was following Sargent driving a semi-tractor pulling an empty grain trailer. The rig is leased to West Central Coop.

As Sargent slowed to turn left onto L Ave, Byerly attempted to pass him on the left and struck the field cultivator. There were no injuries. Damage to the tractor and cultivator, which are owned by Youngblood Farms of rural Jefferson, was estimated at several thousand dollars. The semi-tractor was estimated to be a total loss. Charges are pending further investigation.
