Outcome of Ram games determined in seventh innings

The Greene County softball and baseball teams traveled to Collins Friday night to play the Collins-Maxwell-Baxter Raiders. The boys led 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning but lost 3-2. The girls were behind 2-0 starting the seventh inning but scored five runs. They held that lead as the home team batted one more time to finish the game with the score 5-2 for the Rams.

In baseball, senior pitcher Colton Fitzpatrick struck out 10 Raiders. He was within one pitch of getting the win. The score was 2-1 in favor of the Rams. CMB loaded the bases, and with two outs and a full count, the batter hit a single to left field that scored two runs.

Offensively, Fitzpatrick hit a single for an RBI, Reid Lamoureux hit a double, Jordan Challen hit a single and Tyler Beger made it to first base on a bunt. CMB had only five hits for the game.

The baseball team is now 2-1 overall and in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.

The softball team is 3-0 overall and in the HOIAC after the 5-2 win over CMB. Down 2-0 in the seventh inning, Hannah Onken started with a single, there was  fly ball out, Emma Saddoris walked and Sydney Koch hit a single. The bases were loaded. Onken scored when Bailey Godwin walked, and a Carleigh Paup double scored Saddoris and Koch. Paup scored from second base on a Kayla Mobley single to make the score 4-2. Mobley made it home on a fielder’s choice on an Emily Christensen ground ball.

Pitcher Marissa Promes struck out eight batters, walked one, and allowed seven hits and two earned runs.
