The trustees of the Dora Mahanay Educational Trust reminds all graduating high school seniors and their parents that thousands of dollars are available to be loaned to local graduating seniors. These loans are substantial, up to $4,000 per year, with $16,000 total. And the interest rate is only 3 percent, with interest and payments starting after graduation.

Armed Forces Day is a day to recognize members of the Armed Forces who are currently serving. To mark Armed Forces Day on May 16, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary, and the American Legion will host an Armed Forces Day picnic Saturday, May 16,, from 11 am to 2 pm at the VFW hall, 109 N. Children at the Greene County Early Learning Center had a chance to decorate cookies for the care providers there Friday for Provider Recognition. April showers have continued into May in Jefferson. According to data from volunteer weather observer John Beltz, Jefferson received .86 inch of rain during the week ending May 8 at 6 am. Temperatures varied only 21 degrees during the week, from a high temperature of 85 degrees to a low temperature of 44 degrees.
