Grand Junction house severely damaged in fire

A burning cigarette on a coffee table is the suspected cause of a house fire in Grand Junction Wednesday morning.

The Grand Junction fire department and three Greene County deputies responded to the fire at 104 W. Main Street in Grand Junction at 3:52 am.

The house, which is owned by Jason Harvey, incurred severe damage in the interior and on the east side of the exterior. Five people were in the house at the time; all got out safely. Fire fighters were on the scene until about 6:30 am.

The west side of a neighboring home owned by Terry Hoefle also was damaged by heat.

The family is in immediate need of clothing. Teresa Lansman of New Opportunities has put out a call for casual clothing in children’s size 14, women’s size 7, 16 and 18, and men’s size XXXL-XXXXL. Items can be delivered to New Opportunities at 1401 N. Elm, Jefferson.
