All county residents are reminded that the annual tornado drill will take place Wednesday, March 25, at approximately 10 am. All sirens in Greene County will sound at approximately 10:15 am. Schools, businesses, state and local governments, and individuals are strongly encouraged to participate in the drill. In the event of inclement weather on the 25th, the drill will be moved back to Thursday, March 26.
It is the current policy in Greene County that sirens sound in the various communities only when severe weather is eminent in their area. Severe weather can be defined as tornados and severe winds with confirmed destruction such as structure and tree damage. The appropriate response upon hearing a tornado siren in Greene County is to take cover immediately. Sirens may be resounded if severe weather continues. Sirens are not used as an “all clear” indication.
The tornado drill is part of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
