Libraries to host preview teen showing of ‘Insurgent’

InsurgentTeens in grades 6-12 throughout Greene County are invited to attend the premiere showing of the movie “Insurgent” on Friday, March 20, at 4 pm at the Sierra Community Theatre. The first 200 teens to register at their local library will be admitted free and receive a coupon for $2 off a purchase at the concession stand.

This new movie is based on the second book in the popular Divergent series by Veronica Roth.

The book and movie are set in a dystopian Chicago where young people must choose between five factions of society, each dedicated to a particular virtue – honesty, selflessness, bravery, peace, and intelligence. “Divergent” ended with an uprising. War now looms as conflict between the factions grows.

“This book series is one that both teens and adults have liked and they are all eager to see the second movie,” said Scranton librarian Ashley Squibb. “We’re very glad to be able to partner with Sierra Community Theatre to make this event possible for the teens of Greene County.”

Parents and siblings of teens who are pre-registered are welcome to attend with a paid admission. This premier showing is not open to the general public; the movie will be shown March 20 through April 2 at 7 pm for general admission.

Last year the libraries hosted a special showing of the movie “Divergent,” the first book in the series. They plan to sponsor a county-wide teen event each year. This teen event is co-sponsored by the public libraries of Greene County and the Greene County board of supervisors. Please contact your local public library to register or for more information.
