American Legion, VFW seeking funds for roof repair

VFW paint jobThe recently re-energized American Legion Post 11 of Jefferson has joined with VFW Post 9599 with a common goal of repairing and renovating the VFW building on N. Chestnut St. American Legion member Jim Andrew shares the following:

“The American Legion Post #11 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9599 are two separate veteran groups who together share a common link: continued devotion to help our fellow service members and veterans. The businesses and residents of Greene County have also demonstrated their commitment to veterans with the designation of Home Base Iowa.

“We now find ourselves reaching out to the public for assistance. As a way to maximize our resources and minimize our expenses, our two veteran groups, as well as the VFW Auxiliary, share the VFW building on the square in Jefferson. Although the building is newly remodeled on the inside and freshly painted on the outside, the roof is in poor condition. Currently, a leaky condition. Remodeling costs along with normal operating expenses have nearly depleted available funds that could be used for this repair. These organizations need a new roof, sooner, rather than later. In order to accomplish this mission, we need the public’s help.

“Our veterans groups desire to be ready and proud to serve our veterans in any way. If you desire the same, please make a tax deductible contribution to help us cover the cost of a new roof. Your monetary contributions can be made either to the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Peoples Trust & Savings Bank or to the American Legion at Home State Bank. Both banks are in Jefferson. Any questions may be directed to VFW post commander Don Ihnken at 515-386-4933.

Thank you to everyone who shares our commitment.”
