The Greene County boys basketball team entered post season play as the underdog in a game in Carroll against the Carroll Tigers. The Rams were on the short end of a 60-52 score, but the Tigers weren’t up by more than two possessions until will into the fourth quarter.
The Rams led 10-9 after the first quarter. The Tigers held a four point lead at the half, 23-19, and the Rams narrowed it to a one point lead, 37-34 at the end of the third quarter. It wasn’t until 2:35 left to play in the fourth quarter that the Tigers’ lead was more than six points. Even with 40 seconds to play, the Tigers’ lead was only five points. Foul shots made the difference in the quarter; the last 13 of the Tigers’ 23 points were all made at the free throw line. Freshman Wade Adcock was the only Ram to make it to the free throw line in the fourth quarter. He made five of six shots, but that wasn’t enough.
Both teams held the other’s lead scorer to fewer than average points. The Tigers held sophomore Trey Tucker to eight points, well below his 23 point average. Adcock was the Rams’ lead scorer with 11 points. Tyler Beger scored eight, Landon Braun scored seven, Riah Nelsen and Max Neese scored six each, and Reid Lamoureux and Mitchell Gorsuch scored three each.
For the game, the Rams were 16 of 50 from the floor for a 32 percent shooting average. The Tigers were 19 of 43 for a 44 percent average.
The game was the last high school game for seniors Braun and Nelson. Other seniors on the team are Jordan Hostetler and Josh Horbach. The Rams will have much experience on next year’s team.
The Rams ended the season at 6-15, after being 6-6 earlier in the season.
