First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson, as it has the past several years, participated in the national Souper Bowl of Caring Feb. 1. The congregation collected 3,680 cans of food which will be distributed to the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center (ARC) food pantry, Pine Ridge mission, and Beacon of Hope. The Jefferson Fareway store facilitated the effort by making it easy to buy cases of canned goods.
This year marked the 25th annual Souper Bowl of Caring. According to souperbowl.org, 4,943 groups participating in the 2015 event collected $6,713,483 in food items and cash donations. All food and cash was distributed by the local groups.
