Frost on the roadway causes another accident

A State Patrol trooper reported a one vehicle rollover accident that occurred on County Road E-53 near the east Jefferson city limits Tuesday (Jan. 27) at 8:54 am.

According to the accident report, Martin Perez Valazquez, 52, of Perry was westbound on E-53. As he slowed in approaching the reduced speed for the city, he lost control of his 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The trooper noted the roadway was frost covered. The pickup truck went off the north side of the roadway, rolled, struck two trees, and came to rest on its top.

Valazquez and a passenger, Sergio Luis Perez, 16, of Rippey were transported with minor injuries to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services. The Jefferson police department and the Jefferson fire department assisted at the scene.

The accident report noted that Perez was wearing a seatbelt. It does not indicate whether or not Valazquez was wearing one.

Editor’s note: A pair of accidents reported Jan. 19 by the Greene County sheriff’s office were also attributed to frost on the roadway. Drive with extra caution on frosty mornings, particularly where the roadway is shaded from the sun.
