JPRD hosts free weekend at GCCC, January activities

JPRD logoThe Jefferson park and recreation department will host its annual free weekend at the Greene County Community Center next weekend, Jan. 3-4. The community center will be open its regular weekend hours – 6 am to 6 pm Saturday and 12 to 6 pm Sunday. Guests can experience all the community center offers including cardio and weight equipment, the gym, the walking track, and the racquetball court. A drawing will be held for a free six month membership.

Also, remember that until Saturday, the daily admission fee for non-members will be waived for anyone bringing non-perishable food items or household items for the food pantry.

Registrations are being taken for three programs that begin soon.

JPRD will introduce children ages 3-5 to several different sports in the Pre-Sports program in January.

Through fun games children will begin to learn and improve motor skills needed for all sports.  The program will meet Wednesday mornings, Jan. 7 through Jan. 28,  from 10:15 to 11 am.  Class will be held at the Greene County Community Center and is limited to 10 children. The volleyball program for youngsters in kindergarten through sixth grade meets Saturdays, Jan. 10 through Jan. 31 at the community center. Participants will be grouped by age. Children K-2 will meet from 11 am to noon, grades 3-4 will meet from 10 to 11 am, and grades 5-6 will meet from 9 to 11 am.

The popular mini cheerleading winter session is slated for Tuesday, Jan. 13, and Thursday, Jan. 15, from 3:30 to 5 pm at Greene County elementary in Jefferson. Participants will learn cheers from Ann Ostendorf and Ram basketball cheerleaders, and then  show what they’ve learned during halftime of the Ram girls basketball gamer Friday, Jan. 16.
