Organizers working against the calendar to raise the last $30,000 for a new community center in Grand Junction have turned to gofundme.com. Diane Wise established a gofundme.com campaign last week. The campaign has raised $650 in a week.
According to the gofundme.com website, the San Diego-based company uses state of the art secure payment encryption technology. Since the company was established in May, 2010, users have raised more than $620 million for various causes.
Using gofundme.com offers donors the convenience of making a donation online. However, the company collects a 5 percent fee and an additional 3 percent processing fee on every donation. To assure all funds go to the Grand Junction Community Center building fund, donate the old-fashioned way. Mail a check to City of Grand Junction/ Community Center, PO Box 383, Grand Junction, IA 50107. Donations are tax deductible.

The city of Grand Junction was awarded a $220,000 Vision Iowa grant with the stipulation that the committee must raise an additional $30,000 by early March. Total cost of the project is about $1 million, but the city of Grand Junction is willing to assume $200,000 in bonded indebtedness if organizers raise the remaining $800,000. Organizers are very close if they can claim the Vision Iowa grant.
