According to Beltz’s data, November 1959 is the coldest November on record with an average temperature of 28.4 degrees. Average temperature this November was 28.6 degrees.
Beltz reported a high temperature of 62 degrees on Nov. 6, with highs of 61 on Nov. 3 and 60 on Nov. 4 and Nov. 5. He reported a high temperature of 59 degrees on Nov. 11 (the 24 hours preceding 7 am on that date), but the weather changed that day. He reported the first snow of the season on Nov. 11 as well, 0.8 inches. Low temperature for Nov. 11 was 20 degrees. Temperatures stayed below freezing for the next 10 days. Low temperature for the month was -5 degrees on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28.
Average high temperature for November was 39.0 degrees, compared to the normal of 45.5 degrees. Average low temperature for November was 18.2 degrees, compared to the normal low of 25.6. (Calculating the average temperature for the month: 39.0 + 18.2 = 57.2, divided by 2 = 28.6) The record high temperature for Jefferson in November is 81 degrees on Nov. 1, 1938. The record low is -9 degrees on Nov. 7, 1991.
Beltz reported a total of 4.5 inches of snow in November, compared to 3.0 inches as the normal November snowfall. He reported a total of .17 inch of rain. Total precipitation (Beltz melts snow to calculate precipitation) was .49 inch, compared to the normal November precipitation of 1.92 inches. He reported snow on the ground 15 days during the month.
