Friends of Rippey reminder: There will be a Christmas breakfast on Dec. 6 from 8 to 11 am.  Egg casserole, sausage, fruit, cinnamon rolls, coffee and juice will be served for a free will offering.  A quilt donated by Sharon Riley will be offered for a silent auction.

Rippey Lions Club: The Lions will meet Thursday, Dec. 4, for their regular meeting. The spaghetti supper that was postponed from Saturday evening to Sunday after church was deemed a success.  The club thanks everyone for their support.

Bye Bye Blues meet: The Bye Bye Blues met in the home of Doris Brown for a potluck dinner.  The hostess had decorated her home with a fall theme, and on the tables were a collection of music boxes.   Always known for their cooking abilities, the ladies brought an abundance of good food and the selection was varied and plentiful.   The conversation was lively and ultimately turned to reminiscing.  Old pictures were shared and they triggered warm memories of the many members who are no longer with us that share the special bond of belonging to the lodge.

These ladies were members of Alice Blue Rebekah Lodge #414 and after their building became too much to keep up and the contents were sold in 1993, the members continued to meet in the library meeting room and finally surrendered their charter in 2002.They called themselves the “Bye Bye Blues” and the name stuck.  The members held their meetings in the new building for a while, but with dwindling membership, it was decided to hold their meetings at the home of Doris Brown for the convenience of the ladies. They don’t meet in the winter months, so this was their Christmas meeting and a collection was taken for the Action Resource Center in Jefferson.

Those attending were Iva Jo Muir, Midge Vannatta, Eleanor Alex, Kaye Linger, Lois McDowell, Donna Ridnour, Marilyn Pentico, Jean Borgeson and hostess, Doris Brown.

Kinkead-Martin American Legion Post #583: The members of the Kinkead-Martin American Legion post #583 met at the Rippey Community Building on Thursday, Nov. 13, for their annual oyster and chili supper.  After the meal, a short business meeting was held. The members voted to purchase a new gun safe. Officers for next year are Gary Schmidt, commander and Chris Kilmer, adjutant. The rest of the evening was spent visiting.

Those attending were LaVere Derry, Dan Brubaker, Dennis Ulrich, Mike Scharingson, and Gary Schmidt, all of Rippey, Bill Hamilton of Grand Junction, Dale Whitehead of Perry, and Chris Kilmer of Dawson.

The Rippey Legion Post obtained its charter April 28, 1922, naming it “Clifford Kinkead.” A new charter was issued April 11, 1948 and the post name was changed to “Kinkead-Martin” in memory of Clifford Kinkead and Dale Martin, who were the first servicemen from the Rippey area to give their lives in World War I and World War II.
