Four Greene County High School musicians – junior David Petersen, senior Annie Palmer, and sophomores Nadia Fisher and Michael Kennedy (pictured) will sing in the prestigious All-State Chorus on the Iowa State University campus this week. They were selected at auditions in October.
Directing the 600-voice chorus will be Dr Lee Nelson, director of choral activities at Wartburg College. Nelson has conducted all-state and honor choirs in Colorado, New York, Nevada, Alaska, Mississippi, Indiana, Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Arizona, Nebraska and Manitoba, Canada. He holds a bachelor of music degree from Concordia College and holds master’s and doctorate degrees in music from the University of Arizona.
The 68th annual All-State Music Festival concert will take place Saturday, Nov. 22, in Hilton Coliseum on the ISU campus. Rehearsals will being Nov. 20. The festival is organized by the Iowa High School Music Association.
Concurrently, the Iowa Choral Directors Association holds its Opus Honor Choirs Nov. 20. Greene County High School choir director Dave Heupel will direct the 7th and 8th grade bass choir. Those students are selected based on taped auditions.
