Yes, it was a pretty October

October weather data compiled by volunteer weather observer John Beltz verifies it was a lovely October in Jefferson.

The average high temperature was just a bit cooler than average, at 63.4 degrees compared to the normal 64.5 degrees. The average low temperature was almost two degrees warmer, too, at 40.4 degrees compared to the normal 38.7 degrees.

High temperature for the month was 74 degrees on Oc. 17. There were six days when the high temperature was 70 degrees or warmer. The temperature was 60 degrees or warmer on 23 days. Record high temperature for October in Jefferson is 96 degrees on Oct. 1, 1976.

Low temperature for October was 27 degrees on Oct. 31. There were 17 days when the low temperature was cooler than 40 degrees. The warmest low temperature was 58 degrees on Oct. 2. Record low temperature for October in Jefferson is -6 degrees on Oct. 30, 1925.

The month was a little wetter than normal, with a total of 3.65 inches of rain compared to the normal 2.41 inches. However, all but three-tenths of an inch fell before Oct. 15. Beltz reports 1.62 inches on Oct. 1, and .97 inch on Oct. 14. He reports rainfall on eight days in October. He reported no snow; normal is 0.2 inch.
