Reader support for GCNO will benefit Adopt-a-Family
GreeneCountyNewsOnline this week is marking its first year of providing free, timely news about and for Greene County. In the first year, there have been more than 2,000 articles posted. More than 37,000 visitors have made 113,000 visits and looked at 432,000 pages.
The website is always available and always free, with advertising by community-minded businesses. Most ads link to a website or Facebook page, making GreeneCountyNewsOnline a convenient doorway to online banking, prescription refill orders, a restaurant menu, or a website or Facebook page packed with information.
Readers can support GreeneCountyNewsOnline by supporting advertisers and using the ad/links. Thank advertisers for strengthening our community by making it easier for residents to stay informed on issues and events.
Readers can also personally help assure the sustainability of free news by making a contribution to GreeneCountyNewsOnline. A “Donate” button at the bottom of the ad stack links readers to a PayPal site where donations can be made via debit or credit cards. Checks can be sent to PO Box 343, Jefferson, IA 50129.
Now through Nov. 27, Thanksgiving Day, every dollar of reader support will be matched by GCNO with a donation of one pound of food to Adopt-a-Family. This year, rather than asking for donations of food and household items, the Adopt-a-Family board is working to raise $12,000 to be used to purchase food for the 175 gift baskets it will distribute to needy families.
“I launched GreeneCountyNewsOnline as a way to participate in and nurture our community,” said publisher Victoria Riley. “The Adopt-a-Family board is a hard-working group and they’ve set a big goal to meet a big need. Sharing reader support is a way I can help.”
Adopt-a-Family has named 14 cents as the price it will pay for a pound of food. GCNO will buy a pound of food for every dollar in reader support, without limit, through Nov 27. If reader support nets 1,000 pounds of food, GCNO will fund an extra 250 pounds.
“I’m looking forward to making that donation. I hope it’s a big one,” Riley said.
