The inaugural Rock the ARC netted more than $3,750 for the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center, the ARC. The fund drive culminated Sunday afternoon at RVP~1875’s History Boy Theatre with a Rock the ARC talent show featuring dozens of young dancers, vocalists of all ages, local poets and some good jokes. Sue Wind served as emcee for the event, which was put on for a full house.

Prior to the talent show, organizers Vicky Gliem and Essie Kowaleski, working with other members of Monica’s Ministry, had gathered more than $2,500 in sponsorships for the food pantry. Coming in as banquet sponsors with donations of more than $100 were Compusense, Home State Bank, Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, Hastings Funeral Home and the employees of AAI. Meat sponsors with donations of $100 were Hy-Vee Drugstore, Farmers Mutual Insurance, Durbin Automotive, Fareway, Syngenta, and the Community Players of Greene County.

There were nine sponsors at the vegetable level ($50 donations) and 17 sponsors at the bread level ($25 donation).

A free will donation was accepted at the talent show, and donations were also accepted for home baked refreshments. Greene Bean Coffee donated coffee for the afternoon.

Gliem was pleased with the debut of Rock the ARC and is already making plans for next year’s fund drive and talent show. “I’m just so happy with how people have rallied around this good cause,” Gliem said.

Monica’s Ministry was first formed by the late Monica McGregor. Members thanked RVP~1875/History Boy Theatre, The Printer’s Box, Prairie Blue Creative Arts, KDLS radio, Greene Bean Coffee, Jim Groves and Clay Ross for their special assistance.
