The annual Fall Festival at Deal’s Orchard Saturday was a lot like the Iowa State Fair, but right in Greene County! There were lots of people, animals, live entertainment, fun activities, and vendors selling many good things to eat!
Jerald and Cindy Deal both said Saturday’s crowd was just about the biggest they’ve ever had at the orchard, and Sunday’s weather forecast calls for another near perfect day. The orchard will be open from 10 am to 6 pm for the second day of the Fall Festival.
Fiddler Dave Bellegante (middle) and a couple of buddies entertained with boot-tapping tunes. According to Jerald Deal, Bellegante won the Iowa State Fair fiddling contest so many times that he became one of its organizers, to let other people have a chance at winning.
Hay rack rides around the orchard, whether drawn by horses or mules, are a favorite sit-down activity after busy fun in the Apple Acres Family Fun Zone. Where but at the Fun Zone can kids go “sledding” on the grass?
Picking out the best pumpkins is a family event. Hauling your own pumpkin proves you’re a man like Dad.
And don’t forget apples!
