Aaron Schroeder, owner of Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home of Jefferson, recently purchased the Walter-Schroeder Funeral Home in Boone from Randy Walter. The name has been changed to Schroeder Funeral Home.

The name is rather coincidental. The Boone funeral home was established in 1932 by Harry W. Schroeder who, according to Aaron Schroeder, is not related to him in any way. The funeral home has been located at 503 Story St in Boone since 1939.

Aaron Schroeder, who was born and raised in Jefferson, first became interested in mortuary science while doing a job shadowing assignment for a class at Jefferson-Scranton High School. He joined the US Army after graduating from JSHS in 1993, and was stationed in Alabama and Georgia. He also served overseas. He was honorably discharged in 1997 and enrolled in mortuary school at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, AL. He returned to Iowa in 2000.

He purchased Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home from Mark Rossow in 2008.

Schroeder said it is helping families through the process of grieving and planning an appropriate, personal service that he enjoys about his work.

“We are excited for the opportunity through Schroeder Funeral Home to be able to provide the Boone area residents with the same professional, compassionate and detailed services that Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home has been providing its clientele for the last 95 years,” Schroeder said.

Schroeder and his wife Shelly live in Jefferson with their daughters Emma and Isabella.
