American Legion working to re-energize post

American Legion IowaTen members of American Legion Post 11 met at the VFW hall in Jefferson Monday evening to plan for the revitalization of the post. New post commander Larry Blane conducted the meeting and received reports of progress in expanding the membership and the resources available. The post gained seven or eight new members in August, and those at Monday meeting hope to double the attendance at the October meeting.

District membership chairman Jim Peterson of Gowrie was at the meeting to help the post plan its participation in the fifth grade essay contest and the national oratory competition for high school students. Member Barb Labate volunteered to pursue that.

Plans were also made for a visit to Post 11 and to Jefferson by the national vice commander in mid-November. Watch for more information.

The post will meet regularly the second Monday of each month at 7 pm at the VFW hall on N. Chestnut St. Click here for membership information.
