Greene County district court, week ending July 11

In Greene County district court Tobi Ann Baker, 46, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation for two years. She must pay a $625 fine with a $218.75 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. She must also pay victim restitution yet to be determined. A charge of theft-second degree was dismissed. Court costs were $605.28. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)

Christopher Adelbert Laurent, 45, of Grand Junction was sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of domestic abuse assault aggravated, amended from domestic abuse assault-class D felony. All but seven days of the prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. The minimum fine and surcharge were suspended, but Laurent must pay $40 restitution to the Greene County sheriff’s office. He must complete a batterers education at his own expense. No judgment was entered on a charge of false imprisonment. He must pay $90 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $116.50 court costs. A companion case in magistrate court in which Laurent was charged with obstruction of emergency communication was dismissed. (Sentencing: Kester)

Mitchell David Lyons, 24, of Schaller was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)-first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must pay a $1,250 civil penalty and complete a community college drinking drivers course at his own expense. Court costs were $1,121.50. Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending July 11 as follows: Steven Wayne Busch, 58, of Fort Dodge, OWI-third or subsequent offense; Zachary John Crabbs, 26, of Yale, driving while disqualified; Alan Dale Ensley, 54, of Ankeny, OWI-first offense, possession of methamphetamine-second offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia; and two separate cases against Michael David Teeples, 21, of Jefferson, charged with possession of marijuana in each case.
