Rams win first game in Kuemper tournament

The Ram baseball team took advantage of two days of rest and arrived at the Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) tournament Saturday ready to play. (The Rams were not scheduled to play Thursday and a home game scheduled for Friday against South Hamilton was postponed because Allensworth Field was too wet.) The Rams beat the Raptors of Ridge View (Holstein) 7-3.

Junior Riah Nelson pitched the first four innings and got the win. Sophomore Tyler Beger pitched the last three innings and was credited with a save. Nelsen had four strikeouts and no bases on balls, although he hit two batters with pitches. He allowed two hits and one earned run.

Beger had two strikeouts and two walks. He allowed three hits and two earned runs.

Junior first baseman Alex Rasmussen got his first home run of the season, a line drive over the left field fence in the top of the second inning. He also hit a single. Junior Colton Fitzpatrick hit and double and a single and had one RBI. Nelsen scored an RBI with a single and also hit a sacrifice fly that brought in two runs. Junior Dylan McConnell hit a single that brought in a run. Junior Zach Fouch, senior Wes Tipton and Beger all had singles. Pinch hitter freshman Mac Adamson hit a single in his first varsity at bat.

The win improved the Rams’ season record to 7-12 and left the Raptors at 13-8.
