Rams win in softball opener, lose in baseball

The Greene County Rams opened their softball and baseball seasons last night in Jefferson with mixed results.

The softball team topped Saydel 11-2. Defensively, junior pitcher Marissa Promes struck one 10 batters and walked none, while offensively, the Rams got 12 hits. The Rams had two errors; the Eagles mustered four hits and committed five errors.

Juniors led the team. Emma Saddoris hit a pair of doubles and batted in two runs. Kayla Mobley hit a two run double, Hannah Onken doubled, singled, and had one RBI, Tressa Rasmussen hit two singles, Bailey Godwin hit a single and got one RBI, and Emily Christensen hit a single. All are juniors. Sophomores Carleigh Paup and Sydney Koch also had hits. Paup hit two singles and one RBI and Koch had a single.
At Allensworth Field east of the high school the baseball team lost 4-1. Eagles senior pitcher Brandon Hodges had a no-hitter going until the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs in the fifth, junior Alex Rasmussen hit a double and scored when the Eagles committed two infield errors on the same play. The Rams suffered a total of 13 strike-outs, with 11 of them coming from Hodges.
Junior Riah Nelsen pitched for the Rams and took the loss. He gave up seven hits, six of them singles, and struck out seven batters. He had no walks. The Eagles four runs were in all in the third inning; two of them were earned runs.
The Ram teams are home again Wednesday evening hosting Roland-Story.
