Jefferson city council delays on budget amendment, beekeeping ordinance

The Jefferson city council delayed two actions anticipated for the May 27 regular meeting.

The council had previously set a public hearing to amend the FY ’14 budget for Tuesday’s meeting. Instead, the council set Tuesday, June 10, at 5:30 pm for the public hearing. The first public notice of the budget amendment had included an incorrect number, invalidating that posting as a legal notice. The correct notice is posted here: Jefferson 2014 budget amendment

The council had also listed on its agenda the first reading of an ordinance allowing keeping of bee hives within the city limits. The draft ordinance is not yet ready for council review The first reading is delayed to an unspecified date.

The council did approve the second reading of ordinances to adjust water service rates and sewer user charges upwards by 3 percent. The council will have a third reading June 10 and the new rates will go into effect after the ordinances are published. The rates are scheduled to go into effect July 1, with the increased charge first showing on the water/sewer bills payable by Aug. 15.
