Volunteers needed for local emergency response team
The Greene County Medical Reserve Corp (MRC) will host a disaster preparedness seminar Friday, May 16, at 10 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson. The seminar is free and open to the public.
Guest speaker Gwen Buck, chief nursing officer at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, will share the Creston tornado story and what it means to be prepared for such a disaster.
She will speak of her experience during the 2013 Creston tornado and what its impact was on the Creston medical center. She will also share what disaster preparedness lessons were learned.
Greene County MRC coordinator Shelly Berger noted, “Gwen Buck’s presentation can help us as a county, and as individuals, to know what disaster preparedness should include.”
The presentation is made possible through MRC grant funds and helps promote the MRC program, which is responsible for providing a prepared and ready workforce of volunteers to serve the people of Greene County in the event of any public health or medical emergency.
The Greene County MRC is seeking volunteers from all backgrounds, skill levels and experiences who are willing to support a public health or health care emergency response in Greene County. More information is available by contacting Berger at 515-386-0114.
